is a lecturer at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. She graduated with a PhD in Mathematics Education from Western Michigan University in the US. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in education from Kenyatta University, a Masters degree in Social Statistics from the University of Nairobi and second Masters degree in Mathematics Education from Western Michigan University. She was a high school teacher of mathematics in Kenya for about 15 years and an examiner with the Kenya National Examinations Council for five years. Mary attended the AIMSSEC Mathematical Thinking course and ACE course at Stellenbosch from 2010-2012. The AIMSSEC learning experience was a turning point in her teaching and greatly influenced the decision to pursue a PhD in Mathematics Education. She is passionate about the teaching of mathematics and her research interest is in teacher learning. She is also a keen in contributor towards building capacity for research in Mathematics Education in the East African region. Part of this contribution has been through the organization of the pre-conference school of the Mathematics Education strand of Strathmore International Mathematics Conferences 2019 (SIMC 2019) with a deliberate focus on research training and seeking funding to support attendance of early career faculty and graduate students.
